Who knew? “I Want What I Want” (1972)

From the site If Charlie Parker Was a Gunslinger, There’d Be a Whole Lot of Dead Copycats, which is doing the job that Unexplained Cinema used to do for me (but is now, sadly, very quiet).
I can’t help but wonder whether this film really does treat the subject “with insight and compassion” like the book supposedly did — or if it’s the usual blend of titillation and melodrama? The documentary The Celluloid Closet (1995) would have it that films of this era insisted on killing off their LGBTQ characters. Don’t you want to find out whether there are interesting exceptions to that rule?
